Implant Dentures – Minot, ND
Replacing All of Your Teeth the Modern Way
Traditional dentures are not without their drawbacks. They are invaluable for allowing you to eat and speak properly again, but since they rest on the gums, they can be prone to slipping at embarrassing moments. However, if you have your dentures attached to dental implants, you can enjoy a much more stable new smile that looks and feels natural. Interested in getting implant dentures? What Are Implant Dentures?
A dental implant is a small post resembling a screw that can be placed into your jawbone via surgery. The right number of carefully placed dental implant posts can be used to support a denture in order to replace multiple missing teeth at once. Thanks to the implant posts, your prosthesis will stay firmly anchored in place.
You can get a removable implant denture that can be taken out of the mouth at any time or a fixed implant denture that can only be removed by your dentist.
Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures
Fixed implant dentures normally require about four to eight implant posts, and they’re only viable for patients who have a certain level of jawbone density. Since implant dentures will normally stay inside your mouth at all times, you will take care of them as if they were your real teeth.
Removable Implant Dentures
Removable implant dentures often only need two to five implant posts for support, and they can be a good choice for patients with lower bone density levels in their jaws. When the time comes to clean a removable implant denture, you will need to take it out of your mouth.
The Implant Denture Process
The process of getting implant dentures can be summed up in the following steps:
- During an initial consultation, our team will confirm whether you’re a good candidate for dental implants.
- Any necessary preparatory procedures, such as bone grafting, will be completed.
- The implant posts will be surgically placed into the ideal locations inside your jaw.
- Over time, the posts will effectively become part of the jaw thanks to a process called osseointegration.
- Abutments will be attached to the implant posts.
- The final denture will be designed using impressions of your mouth. Once it’s complete, it will be attached to the implant posts.
Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?
If you have a healthy mouth that is free of gum disease as well as a sufficient level of bone density in your jaw, you will likely be able to get implant dentures. Note that even patients with low jawbone density could still qualify for dental implants after bone grafting. We can discuss your candidacy in more detail when you visit our office for a consultation.
Benefits of Combining Dentures & Dental Implants
- Dentures supported by dental implants tend to have a natural feel and appearance.
- You’ll be able to eat all kinds of foods with the improved biting force from the implant posts.
- The dental implants will help stimulate your jaw to put a stop to bone loss.
